Transparent electromagnetic wave (EMI) shielding, which is one of the applications enabled by the FineX® transparent conductive film, represents an example of an approach that aims to achieve both transparency and high shielding performance—something that has been difficult with conventional EMI shielding films*. Due to its compatibility with a wide frequency range, it may be applied to various use cases.
* ITO, metal mesh, conductive fibers, punched metal, metal foil, etc.
An overview and features of EMI shielding applications using the transparent conductive film FineX® are introduced on the following page.
We have received many questions through webinars and exhibitions, so we have compiled them along with answers into this Q&A collection. We hope this serves as a useful reference for your future development and design considerations.
Q&A on EMI Shielding Applications Using Transparent Conductive Film FineX®
![]()
Product Information
Q1
Is the OCA (adhesive layer) conductive?
It is not conductive.
Product Information
Q2
Are there products with substrates other than PET film?
The standard configuration uses a PET substrate.
Lineup expansion may be considered depending on requirements.
Product Information
Q3
What is the maximum manufacturable size?
The current size is 477.3 × 531.5 mm.
Larger sizes are under consideration.
Product Information
Q4
How much bending is possible?
Bending in one direction with a radius greater than 30 mm is assumed.
Application to 3D curved surfaces is not assumed.
Product Information
Q5
Is there a risk of copper wiring corrosion and disconnection under high temperature and humidity?
There is a possibility.
Multiple reliability tests have been conducted. Please refer to the specified test conditions in the specification sheet when provided.
Product Information
Q6
If a tester probe is applied to the shield surface, will it conduct electricity?
Electrical conduction is not possible because the outermost surface on the wiring side is covered with an OCA (adhesive) layer.
Note: The cross-section may be exposed depending on the customer's cutting process; however, the product is not intended to be used for electrical conduction via the exposed cross-section.
Performance
Q7
Is there a clear difference compared to aluminum foil?
Aluminum foil is non-transparent, whereas EMI shielding applications using FineX® transparent conductive film can maintain transparency.
Shielding performance is lower than aluminum foil but achieves a certain level of performance.
Performance
Q8
Can it be used for electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection?
There are no evaluation results for ESD applications.
Evaluation may be conducted depending on requirements.
Performance
Q9
Does shielding performance change depending on the presence of GND?
Below 1 GHz (measured by the KEC method), there is no significant difference due to GND connection.
The effect of GND connection on shielding performance is considered in terms of the following three factors. "A" shows the evaluation result for factor (3)
- Whether the structure is electromagnetically sealed (no gaps)
- Whether resonance and antenna effects occur
- Whether absorbed energy is properly grounded
Items (1) and (2) depend significantly on the use environment, so on-site evaluation is recommended.
Performance
Q10
Will moiré or glare occur when applied to displays? Are there mitigation methods?
Wiring is arranged using a proprietary pattern designed to reduce glare.
Compared to typical grid meshes, such effects may be reduced.
Performance
Q11
What frequency range is supported?
The measurement range is 100 kHz to 40 GHz. Please refer to the following URL for measurement results.

Performance
Q12
What is the principle behind the shielding effect?
Metal wiring is distributed across the surface, and electromagnetic waves are reflected by the metal.
Performance
Q13
Is it possible to suppress electromagnetic leakage from inside to outside?
This is possible. There is no difference in performance between front and back surfaces.
Installation
Q14
Is it necessary to outsource sheet cutting, or can customers cut it themselves?
Processing partners may be introduced depending on requirements.
Customers can also perform cutting themselves.
Installation
Q15
What are the recommended conditions or methods for laminating and cutting by customers?
Mechanical cutting and lamination are generally used.
Installation
Q16
Can issues during lamination (e.g., preventing air bubbles) be addressed?
Applicable partners may be introduced depending on requirements.
Installation
Q17
Does performance change depending on the material it is attached to (glass, acrylic, etc.)
There is no change in the intrinsic performance of the transparent conductive film FineX®.
However, evaluation under actual assembled conditions is recommended.
Supply and Processing
Q18
What is the MOQ for EMI shielding?
128 connected sheets per roll (72 m).
Options below MOQ may be considered depending on conditions.
Supply and Processing
Q19
What are the procurement channels?
Samples may be obtained via Digi-Key.
For mass production, inquiries are handled through distributors.
Supply and Processing
Q20
For small sets such as 100 × 100 mm, is supply at that size possible? Are there tooling costs?
Standard size is approximately 530 × 477 mm, with an MOQ of 128 sheets per roll.
Tooling costs are not required for standard configurations.
Please contact us to discuss small-quantity orders and processing requirements. We will be happy to introduce a suitable distribution channel or processing partner.
Please note that additional costs will be incurred when individual die-cut parts are produced by a processing vendor.
Supply and Processing
Q21
Are there applications other than EMI shielding?
FineX® transparent conductive film can be utilized in a wide range of applications, including transparent heaters, transparent antennas, and transparent substrates.
These products are available on a custom basis. Please contact our sales team or submit an inquiry via our website to discuss your requirements.

Q22
Does cutting reduce shielding performance?
Cutting can be performed anywhere within the active area (wiring area) without affecting performance.
However, cutting exposes the wiring at the edge of the film. Depending on the installation environment, there may be a risk of corrosion of the exposed wiring.
For warranty conditions and limitations, please refer to the product specification sheet. We recommend that customers verify performance and suitability in their intended application environment.
